Carnivorous plants are very unique. They don’t appeal to everyone, but often capture the imagination of people who are not necessarily interested in other types of plants. This course will teach you about the attraction mechanisms, trapping mechanisms and digestive mechanisms of carnivorous plants, as well as how to propagate, grow and look after them.
What will you achieve from this course?
After completing Carnivorous Plants you will have the knowledge necessary to identify a wide range of carnivorous plants as well as propagate and care for them. You will have a deep understanding of the identifying characteristics and cultural requirements of several species of both Sundews, Pitcher Plants, Bladderworts and more!
Lessons:
- Introduction - Review of the system of plant identification, general characteristics of the group, information contacts (ie: nurseries, seed, clubs, etc.)
- Culture - Planting, soils, watering, pest & disease, feeding, etc.
- Propagation and Container Growing - Methods of propagating carnivorous plants, Propagation of selected varieties
- Pitcher Plants (Nepenthes) and Sundews (Drosera)
- Other Important Groups
- The Lesser Grown Varieties
- Australian Droseras
- Making the Best Use of these Plants - In containers, in the ground, as indoor plants, etc.
- Special Assignment - On one selected plant or group
