Eucalypts are today widely grown throughout the world, despite the fact that they are predominantly an Australian native. There are more than five hundred different species of Eucalypts, varying from relatively low shrubby plants to massive tall trees. This course will teach you about Eucalyptus : their identification, culture (propagation, soils, landscape uses, pests, feeding), and uses. Throughout the course you build both knowledge of the group as a whole, and of the range of species you can identify.
What will you achieve from this course?
After completing Eucalypts you will understand the Eucalypt classification system as well as their general requirements and the most effective eucalypt propagation methods. You will be able to differentiate between identifiable characteristics and cultural requirements in a number of commonly cultivated Eucalypts as well as have knowledge of the commercial uses for a range of different Eucalyptus species and much more!
Lessons:
- Introduction - Review of the system of plant identification, general characteristics of the group, information contacts (nurseries, seed, clubs etc.)
- Culture - Planting, staking, mulching, watering, pest & disease, feeding, pruning, protection from wind, salt air, etc.
- Propagation
- The most commonly grown varieties
- Other important groups
- Lesser grown varieties
- Making the best use of Eucalypts
- Special Assignment - On one selected plant or group
