Lavender is grown commercially in France, England, Spain, Italy, USA, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and Japan. Each region grows species that are best suited to local conditions.  This course is designed to teach you the nature and scope of the Lavender genus, its growing techniques and much more!

What will you achieve from this course?

After completing Lavender you will have an understanding of the nutritional requirements, cultural requirements, propagating techniques and commercial growing operations specific to lavender.  You will also have knowledge of the variety of lavender species and products and their marketing techniques.

•     Introduction - Classification and identification of lavender, general characteristics of the group, contacts (nurseries, seed clubs, etc.)
•     Soils, Fertilisers and Nutrition for Lavender
•     Cultural Techniques for Lavender Growing - Pruning, water management, planting and establishment methods, crop scheduling, no dig gardening
•     Lavender Propagation
•     Commercial Alternatives - Managing a Market Garden, standards, mulches, problems and their control, weed control without chemicals, economic outlook for herbs
•     Plant Variety Selection and Breeding - lavender clone selection for essential oils
•     Building Plant Knowledge – Lavender varieties and their advantages and disadvantages
•     Harvesting, Postharvest Treatment and Storage
•     Processing and Making Lavender Products - Lavender crafts, using herbs in cooking
•     Marketing Lavender Produce
